Dr. D. Y. Patil Vidyapeeth, Pune was granted the status of (deemed-to-be) University under Section 3 of the University Grants Commission Act, 1956 on 11th January 2003. It comprises of a Medical College, a Dental College, a Nursing College, a College of Physiotherapy, an Institute of Optometry and Visual Sciences, an Institute of Biotechnology and Bioinformatics and Global Business School & Research Centre. The Vidyapeeth is accredited by NAAC with ‘A’ grade in the year 2009.

The Institute of Distance Learning has been approved by DEC on the recommendation of a Joint Committee of UGC-AICTE-DEC, New Delhi vide Letter No. DEC/Recog/2010/2264 dated 4th August 2010.
Institute of Distance Learning has been established keeping in mind the needs of the modern learning community and at the same time, equipping them with the requisite knowledge and skills that are demanded by the Industry.
